BMW M-Sport Suspension vs non-M suspension

Asked by doraog123 Sep 30, 2020 at 02:42 PM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2013 BMW 328i Convertible with the M-sports package; the first
year they added this package to this car.

The front end was backed into around 2015 and when the repair was made,
it seemed like it rode even lower. Is that possible? I know nothing about
cars, but I do know the feel of how my car drives. It was hitting
EVERYTHING, more so than before. Are there different parts used for the M-
sports vs. non-M-sports that might change that? But then I would think it
would be higher if they used normal parts. Curious if anyone knows? TYIA!

Springs set the ride height. This only bothers you now after 5 years? The M sport suspension would be slightly lower and stiffer than the standard suspension.

Well, the reason I'm asking now is because it's getting a new front end right now and I want to make sure it's the correct part. Is there one for the m-sports and one for the non m-sports convertible? When I entered my VIN# to get the manual (not that it would necessarily tell me anything), nothing came up for my car. I just wanted to see if anything on suspension for the m-sports package would come up. I also read it uses wider tires. So I'm just trying to figure out why it rides lower than previous and to make sure they ARE ordering it for the m-sports package, if it does matters. Like I said, it would make sense that if they used the normal non-m sports pkg, that it would ride higher. But I really don't know anything about cars. Thank you for your response. I totally appreciate any help. :)

So I guess my question is, could I tell them to set the ride height to the original specs? Did they possibly make it lower?

I don't see my other response. I'm getting the front fixed again and I mentioned that it seemed way lower than before and was wondering if they might've lowered it even more when it was repaired back in 2015? Or could they have possibly used the wrong parts (non M-sport) that might've changed something about how it drove?
