2002 mazda Protege 5 will not keep running

My Mazda Protege 5 has what i believe anelectrical problem.  I have to boost it to get it running.  I let it run for about 45 minutes then when  i go in and do anything electrical like turn on radio (after market which i have removed thinking that was the problem).  I cant even have the running light on or even the heater blower motor on.  I have had it running and disconnected the battery and it has kept on running.  Could i still be looking a weak or bad alternator?
