FAILING Air Conditioning system

Asked by janmski Aug 13, 2012 at 11:41 PM about the 2003 Honda CR-V LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 CRV , 69,000 miles, that makes an intermittent whistling sound. My friend's 2004 CRV
had same and was diagnosed as needing a new clutch on the condenser. (Both of our condensers
shattered at around 26,000 miles and fortunately covered by warranty).  Does this sound right? Would
the condenser need to be replaced? The entire A/C system?  What happens if i don't repair it? Any
information greatly appreciated!

Thanks for responding... I meant compressor. Do you happen to know if it's better to replace the clutch AND compressor at the same time? Does the system last longer? As far as i know, right now it's only the clutch that is faulty.

its cheaper to replace just the clutch. as far as the system lasting longer, i am not sure.
