removing cowl covers 2002 crv. How do I remove "rubber hinge cover I and O" page 20-128 w/o damaging rubber or fender or windshield?

"Rubber hinge cover"s are on the right and left of the cowl.  I do not want to
damage them or anything else.  Guy on utube says "pull them out of the fende
with needle nose pliers.   I think I would  tear them on a 15 year old car???
