Oil change frequency

Asked by Guru85J2D Dec 26, 2019 at 11:45 AM about the 2014 Lexus GS 350 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have only put 4k on pure synthetic oil in 21/2 years. The oil was changed at
the dealership May 2017. The color of the oil is golden, and the dealership
tells me to wait until 5k miles or until the message comes up on the dash.
Today I read an article by Exxon saying even synthetic oil should be
changed once a year. Are they just trying to sell oil? The car is so pristine, I
don't want to take it somewhere less expensive for service. The dealership
will charge at least $200.00 to service it, so I'd like to wait another 6 months
if it's safe.

Most manufacturers recommend changing the oil every 5K miles or one year, not matter the mileage. It's up to you if you want to go longer.

Thanks! I know but Bell Lexus in Scottsdale is a fantastic dealership. They have all of the records since they sold it new and I bought it there with 8k miles.
