Older model Lexus LS400 vs 2018 Ford Taurus Police Car

Asked by GuruDX4FT7 Sep 16, 2024 at 09:45 PM about the 2018 Lexus LS 500 AWD

Question type: General

Thinking about buying one of two used cars. The first one is an older Lexus LS
400 with about $150,000 miles. The second one is a 2018 v6 350L Ford Taurus
FWD with about 16,000 miles oni. The Ford is a former police car, the Lexus is
not. What are the opinions on both cars that offers the best long term
reliability. Long term is five years or greater.

If you're looking at 5 years then the Lexus is out just due to age, mileage and availability of parts. Buying an ex cop car is always a toss up, even with low mileage, as you don't know the life it has had. It could have been a pursuit vehicle. If your serious about the cop car then have it checked over by a shop, then make a decision.

I bought a retired police car once. Big mistake! Most repairs are done in house the cheapest way possible. Most likely the vehicle has been beat up and abused. Not to mention the drunks that have, among other things, thrown up in the back seat! Jim
