Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I drive my car the rear right wheel screeches when the tire has a full rotation.
When I apply the brakes the screeching stops. The screeching sounds like metal on
metal rubbing together. Can you help me to understand what is causing this noise and
what I can do to repair it?

Pull the wheel off and look for a small rock or pebble stuck in or near the brake caliper.

The screeching is the wear indicator on the brake pads letting you no your brake pads are getting low. I have heard this happen both ways screeching when riding then goes away when brakes are applied and sometimes only when the brakes are applied. It all depends on how close or how far away the indicator is from making contact with the rotor.

I could be the pad wear indicators, but usually they make noise when applying the brakes.

You guys are right, It was the brake pad wear indicators. Strange that it was making the noise when I wasn't applying the brakes.

Like I said it all depends on how close or how far away the indicator is from making contact with the rotor.
