Noise in Front Driver Side
Asked by cader233 Apr 04, 2018 at 03:33 PM about the 2004 Lexus RX 330 AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
On our RX330 we get a loud bang when driving at speed over a larger than
normal bump. It also has a pull in the steering wheel and weird dragging on the
front driver wheel when making a slow turn to the right. Front end checks out,
replaced struts and have had all the connections checked. Any ideas? Thanks

Not sure, but I would think that the mechanics would have checked those. Is there anything in the steering or the transmission that might cause. My wife has a 2008 Tundra that has that front wheel drag when she puts it into 4WD. Also seems to be worse as the car is driven more, not so much when just starting out after sitting for a bit
You said the front end checked out but I don't have any way of knowing how thorough they were. I wonder if something is cracked or broken in the steering system.
True 4WD systems will "drag" on dry pavement when turning because all the wheels need to turn at different rates which they cannot when locked into 4WD. Your car is basically FWD until the rear wheels are needed.
That may well be, I need to have things checked again. Wanting to have some idea what it could be. I have had it to the dealer yet. That may be the last resort.
Could the driver side front wheel be locking up some how? Only notice it when turning hard to the right
