Question type: Shopping & Pricing
i have the opportunity to purchase a mint condition 2 owner 1988 chevy corvette with 42,000 original miles..car is showroom condition in and out.....however,i don't want to have to spend money on repairs and as we all know vettes are not cheap to repair.i realize that it's over 20 years old and regardless of how the seller describes the car there is no getting away from the fact that i will be makeing repairs at some point.......just putting 4 new basic tires on the corvette will be close to $1,000.00 for 4 new tires........

is everything besides basic maintenance original (ie paint, suspension bushings, brake components (calipers), etc)
Why pay that much for tires, look around I have 88 with 209,000 miles not major problems. Have a good reliable mechanic to check out run scan on computer to find any codes, check wiring. If they have original corvette manuals would be great with wiring diagram booklet also. Good luck!

42,000 miles, mint condition. if the price is right, sounds like a winner. i do agree that is a little high for tires.
Don't spend that much on tires. Shop around on Google. I got my tires and wheels for cheap and they look awesome. Get a good reliable mechanic who knows what they're doing. Get the car!

Tires, brakes and regular wear and tear and unexpected repairs definitely go along with any older car, however perfect it may sound. So maybe you should wait and save up enough to cover these items since no matter what age car you buy, you will eventually need these things. There's no sense buying something you cannot afford to maintain.
