I have an 07 camry with 139,000 miles, mostly highway. I never changed the transmission oil. the car will not accelerate after driving 1 block, I will have to turn the car off let it sit for about 1 min and it will drive 1 block again. this keeps repeating over and over. no check engine lights or oil leakage. I took it to a local mechanic, he said the trans is gone, need to be replaced. I bought this car new. never had issues before. I do not have the money for another trans. what can I do?

Lost trust in Toyota

Not much, if anything...taking at face value that the mechanic is both competent and honest. A rebuilt trans. But before you do GET ANOTHER OPINION from a dealer or shop

Oh, Toyota says the fluid is good for the life of the car. Look on the transmission dipstick and it is probably written "Do not change" but if your fluid has a burnt odor or is brown, not red, a transmission flush might get you a little bit more life. I seldom advise a flush, but there are exceptions. Then again you may waste $100 on a flush if it doesn't do anything, and all it will do at best is like I say, get you another 1000 miles Now all this is going on the assumption that I understand, the engine does rev up but car not move ..AND even though it's never been changed it is full to proper mark on dipstick

Thanks for the info. would changing the trans oil and cleaning the gunk build up make a different. Amacco said they can change the oil, clean it up and it might save me some money but no guarantee it will fix it. I don't want to waste money I don't have. any advise? also what about buying rebuilt trans online?

The local mechanic did show me the dipstick and saw it was brown with the burn smell you described. so should I take the chance with Amacco?

p.s. yes to your understanding of my issue. proper mark on dipstick. This is why I'm confused the car never did this before. driving home from work on the highway this past Saturday the rpm started racing. at first I thought my mat was stuck under the gas pedal, once I got to the local street of my town. it keep racing and stalling almost every block until i got home. and still going. only when i turnoff the car for a few minutes, it will drive then start racing again as i mentioned before.

That's exactly what I meant, they can change the fluid and filter screen and it does nothing...or you drive away happy, it's working and shifting fine only to have it do the same thing in 1000 miles or less. Or maybe go a long time, it's a roll of the dice. There is really nothing wrong with buying rebuilt on line, but you are not going to save any money and definitely not used. You don't know what you're getting.
