07 Toyota Camry Issue- PLEASE HELP

Asked by GuruM38D May 18, 2017 at 06:06 PM about the 2007 Toyota Camry CE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi Team,

My car has broken down and need your help.

When I start the engine, car didn’t get started. So I asked my friend to jump-start the car.
After using jump start, car didn’t started. So he just touched the starter wire and it was started my car.

As soon my car was started, Check Engine light become “ON” and I am unable to accelerate the car.

When I took the car to the Mechanic and he read the code saying “P2118- Throttle Actuator..”.
After replacing the throttle, car drove for few miles and after 2 hours, still it shows the same issue (i.e. Check Engine Light ON and unable to accelerate the car).

Then Mechanic disconnected the car computer and connected back then car went back to normal.
Next day morning, when I start the car, same problem shows up (i.e. Check Engine light ON and cannot accelerate the car).
He repeated the same process of disconnecting and connecting the car computer and started working fine.
He is saying its Computer issue.

Can you please give me your idea on this? Is this really computer issue or some other problem?

Bad new throttle or relearn. Throttle needs to be new from Toyota.

So you mean, its not Car Computer issue? Is it Throttle issue? Mechanic replaced the brand new throttle.

I wouldn't rule out a computer issue, but Toyotas are picky about their throttle. Where did the replacement throttle come from?

I will ask him to check the fuse. My mechanic ordered the new throttle through online (not sure website) (new throttle came from Texas) and he replaced it because computer was always showing p2118. Also, I took the back the replaced throttle with me. Now he suspect the computer issue. But he is not confident on it. I feel like there is minor issue but mechanic isn't able to catch. I am wondering, when mechanic disconnect and connect the computer back, everything goes to normal. If I keep car overnight and start in the morning, it shows the same issue (check engine lightON) Why is it so? If it's throttle issue, then it should not go away even after disconnecting and connecting computer back. Please help me to understand the reason.
