Engine temps

Asked by 1Martyh Dec 02, 2016 at 09:42 PM about the 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Islander 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I took it
into the shop for a small radiator leak and they told
me  The radiator has a hole in it and had to be
replaced also the head gaskets were leaking. They
also told me that the engine has been running over
260°. And I never  Once say the gauge move above
the normal Mark where it has been running since I
owned this vehicle that would be four years now.  I
would like to know how this is possible.  And what
to do to prevent it in the future. How to check and
make sure my temperature gauge is right.
Thanks Marty

Did they confirm bad head gaskets with a compression test? How many miles do you have on the motor? Agree with FoR, a second opinion can't hurt.
