New Starter, New Alternator, No output
Asked by KodyMac Apr 28, 2019 at 07:22 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx LT FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Alright, bought this Malibu St auction and can't
get this right. ABS light came on shortly after
purchase, but no braking problems. Starter
began getting weaker & weaker until I had to
replace it. Now I've replaced the starter, battery
& alternator. The alternator is showing 4.2 on
the L terminal and nothing on the F terminal.
Checked the fuse/relay box and it's good.
Thoughts??

Did you take a voltage measurement with the key on or engine running?

With the key on engine off and the connector unplugged you should see approx 5 volts on the l circuit.. plug it back in and the voltage should drop

F circuit is gonna vary in voltage on a working car bc its pulse width moduled.. the f circuit is just a pcm feedback circuit so it can alter idle depending on dury cycle

So basically if its a 0 to 10 volt circuit and its 90% off and averaging volt meter may not hardly read anything... there should be a total of 3 wires on this alternator correct?
Looks to be the main ground wire causing my problems. I only stay running when I have the vehicle hooked up to another one for a boost.
