Fuel Issues

Asked by Aubrey Nov 06, 2018 at 11:13 PM about the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 99 chevy Silverado z71 4x4
Ls. It sat for about 6 years before
purchase. I’ve had the truck a month.
I changed wires, plugs, all my filters,
changed the oil. Recently I decided to
change the fuel filter, also dropped a
can of sea foam in the gas tank
before filling up. Now it’s a hard start,
sputters, and won’t stay running long.
Any answers or ideas will be greatly
appreciated!!

Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. If it set that long, I'd probably pull the plugs and add a drop or two of oil in each cylinder, then rotate the crank by hand. I guess your past that point. I'm not sure of engine liter size? Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. If any old gas left in the tank, you should have drained it. Check for spark at all the plugs. Check fuel injector pulse. Make sure exhaust isn't clogged. Make sure no varmints have built a nest or chewed any wires, anywhere. Any applicable trouble codes? I guess you could check valve timing. That's all I can think of at the moment?

Thank you for. I ran all the gas out that sat in there. It has double flow masters and two catylic converter. Changed plugs and wires. All filters. The last thing I changed was fuel filter on Sunday, by Monday I was a half tank. Checked the fuel filter for leaks and no leaks. By today truck was on empty. Tried cranking heard loud pop out tail pipe twice. Walked over to passenger side and what looked and smelled like a puddle of gas. Looked under truck and right where the exhaust connects to catylic convert was alot of dripping. Now truck just turns over then loud click I mean loud strong click please help

If that drip is gas, One or more of your fuel injectors may be stuck open? Your flooding the engine. I'm not sure about loud click?
