Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2000 Silverado 1500 that started making a loud whirring noise as I was driving to work this morning.  No difference in the performance but noise got deeper when I made turns.  Pwr steer seems to perform okay.  Noise increases with RPMs.

Power steering pump is either low or getting old. They can make noise for some time before any effects are noticed. Other than being annoying of course. You could always take the belt off and run it for a second to see if the noise goes away.

Thanks your quick response. Turns out that it was the gearbox for the power steering which was leaking. At least that's the way it was explained to me.
