Replacing window motor vs whole assembly

Asked by Guru62R7C Aug 12, 2020 at 09:25 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Crew Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

can you replace ONLY the window motor or HAVE TO replace
the WHOLE window assembly?  The steel braided line has
come outside the housing of the motor.  Can I replace ONLY
the motor?

Yes, the motor is available by itself. Rockauto.com shows it. But you would be better off in the long run to replace the regulator assembly. The cables will wear out and break causing the window to fall down and not stay up. In the old days the window regulator had metal arms and were designed for the motor only to be replaced. That's not the case anymore. Just replacing the motor is really not a good idea. Hope that helps! Jim
