What’s the best treatment for power loss?

Asked by GuruFKRWX Apr 29, 2020 at 10:32 AM about the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71 Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Silverado 1500 with 240,000
miles. I’ve noticed I’m loosing power when
pulling my 14’ aluminum Jon boat and even
when carrying 2 bikes on a bike rack. What’s
my best option to fix this? Do I need the
engine rebuilt?

Maybe the engine is tired or maybe there is something else wrong. Do a compression test for starters.

Has the truck also been running hot? Boiling over when you shut it off? If so I'd suspect a worn timing chain. Especially when it's a higher mileage vehicle! Hope that helps! Jim
