2002 z71 rough idle loss of power?

Asked by Josh Apr 07, 2020 at 06:46 PM about the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was sitting in a drive through in a 2002 z71 with
260,000 miles on it and the service engine soon
light started flashing, and it started to have a very
rough idle. I got on the highway and had very little
power. After about 10 minutes the light stopped
flashing and the truck started to run normal. Any
ideas?

A flashing check engine light is warning you that the engine is misfiring and damaging the catalytic converter. If you've never had a tune up or you don't know if the truck has ever been tuned up you're overdue. Tune ups should be done every 100,000 miles. I'd do that first, especially since it stopped. You might have a failing spark plug. Hope that helps! Jim
