HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER DOES THE 2004 5.3 L HAVE
48 Answers
i had a 2006, and it originnally came with like hp in the high 200's. but we added an air filter and dual exhaust, and we were cruisin around the mid to high 300's in horsepower
If i'm not mistaken 295 hp.
I have a 2005 silverado and bought it off the lot...i think i have ablout 300 hp...
about 300 hp. good gas mileage. plenty of power. good choice. dad
most 5.3s have 295 horsepower but in 2005 they had a 5.3 h.o. only 25% of the trucks made in 05 had that engine and it had 310 horsepower but now the newer 5.3s have 315
The 99-01 5.3L had 270, the 02 had I think 285 and 03-06 have 295 and the 07 and up are at 315.
my 99 GMC has 325 stock. so u guys might want to rethink your answers. And I work for GM

How many times can you blow up the earth? at last check...only once.
To many variables to say. I do believe the out of the box HP was supposed to be 270. Changing sparkplugs and their gap, cool air induction, no alcohol gas (https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGNI_enUS508US508&q=No+alchol+gas ) and a few other things can give you 20-30 hp. I piked up 22hp with a KN air filter and some Halo plugs and some prolong engine oil treatment.
Hey my Chevy has a sticker that previous owner put and it says 377hp it's that possible and it does hawlass
You can have all kinds of stickers made up with anything in the world on them. I would not put any stock in non-certified labels. If you really want to know take it and have it dyno-tested and get a technician to certified a copy of the print out for verification and showing off with your friends and acquaintances. Stickers are no more than window dressing. I avoid advertising anything about my vehicle, it is another step away from a car thief and having your ride stripped in a chop shop. Deputy Jim
8th number in vin.if it is a B then its a 310 hp 5.3
My new 2016 2500 gets 355hp in the 5.3l engine. I could have gone up to the higher engine but I dont need to tow a house. 355 is fine with me.
i have a 2008 GMC sierra 5.3 it is stuck and it has 357hp

I have a 2002 Chev Silverado 1500 and it has a 5.3 Vortec in it with 355 hp.
I have been a Chevy boy my hole life the 2000 5.3 only has 270 HP out the door but yes you can do this and that to make her stand out
My 2005 had 295 hp stock
I have a 2005 1500 cre cab, with th 5.3, and I pull a 30 ft hose neck travel trailer, and it still pulls at 75 to 80 mph. Don't know how much hp it has. But it does the job.It has 140000 miles and still very strong. I love my truck!
It's s question whats the fastest way to see HP on a 5.3 4x4
I was a GM Certified Truck Expert Sales Consultant from 2006 to 2012. I had to log over 100 hours of training to be certified. The 5.3L V8 was 305 HP in 2006 through 2012. Active Fuel Management was added with the new body style in 07. (and the oil consumption problems started) There was an aluminum block version that had the "B" in the VIN that was 310 HP. Those people saying they have 355HP or whatever in a 5.3L Vortec are just wrong. it was 305 or 310. GM now uses direct fuel injection and the horsepower is 355. I would suggest you Chevy/GMC guys go drive a Ford Ecoboost or 5.0L V8, a Ram with the Hemi 5.7L, or a Titan with the 5.6L ...(385HP, 385HP, 395HP, and 390HP respectively) and see what horsepower is. Those trucks all get better MPG's than theGM also. The Chevy 5.3L is a gutless pig with shitty gas mileage. End of story.

The first half of what Guru said is true - I've done the research over the last 2 years. However, I would add just a couple items. During the period of the AFM oil consumption issues Fard EcoBust had it's share of problems as well and how could we forget about the deluge of Ram trucks on every car lot from Florida to Hawaii...Ram truck performance was directly inverse to the amount of warranty left...be fair in assessing man. Beyond that, since we are inserting opinions, GM has the pound for pound performance per price locked down. Nobody has got long lasting motors with equal or better performance for that price point. When you add in availability of parts and ease of upgrades...costs remain reasonable and gains are sharp without a dropoff in reliability. If you truly were a GM Certified Sales Consultant, I would think you would know this.
02 5.3 was amazing if you ask me. After what we did with ours we were sitting at 325 horsepower. Only thing messed up on the truck was the bed and after that the transmission was starting to slip a bit but strong truck in all other aspects
GuruZXWC actually u are correct in a way but I have a 2013 Ford f150 v6 and I only get about 17 -19 my 2002 gmc sierra z71 on 35s got 15 city n 18 highway. My mom has a 2017 gmc z71 n she gets 17 city n she went on a trip to Georgia and got 22 mpg. Yes they have 355 now but they are sluggish from bottom end. The hdmi does have lot more horsepower n pick up same as the v8 Ford but not the Nissan 5.6 so I say the gmc gets more mpg then a Ford v8 or even a dodge v8 iv seen results of all of them being 2015 n the gmc got more

I have a 4.3 V6 1500 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 extended cab.. 249 stock HP. But I added K&N air filter, flow master exhaust and a performance chip. I am now achieving 295 HP. Without the modifications I did the truck was a poor exacuse for a truck. Sounded like a car and acceleration was terrible.
I have a 2006 GMC Sierra 1504 wheel drive pick up. My truck I have read everything I can find, I have put my truck on a dyno, and investigated exactly how much horsepower as! I have an auto a build Canadian GMC built for the power you knew till it I company's in Canada, my truck puts out 293 horsepower at around 320' pounds of torque! I am trying to figure out a way to build a 400 horsepower 53 that still gets 18 to 20 miles to the gallon however I have been Unsuccessful. My email is mobiletechtn@gmail.com. If anyone has any advice on how this can be achieved without a supercharger or a huge Cam!
For the guy with the stock 4.3 putting 249 horsepower , stock they are 195 or 200 nowhere near 249 , good engine I ran one over 430,000 miles not a race car by any means but it got the job done
I just happen to have a 5.3( B code eng) . it came out of 06 z71. 97k miles. alum- heads and block. came with K/N intake, hypertech- max, dual exh, the truck was been totaled. anyone know what this motor is worth? it ran super strong. oil changes every 3000 mile since new.

Not to mention LS stock bottom end will hold 750.. take the others with a stock block and put a 400 shot on it and see what happens

I've got a stock LM-7...u know, the LS 5.3 out of a Chevy truck or Tahoe in the 2002-07 range (don't quote me on that range) sitting on a trailer. Beside it is a 1988 SWB Chevy with a 350 fog maker married to a 700R. I plan to yank the 350 and re-wed the 5.3 to the 700R and see how it feels in the old '88. Oh yeah, I'm not going to use the super complex brain box either...I'm gonna do the 4 wire thing with a small fuse box and an after market EFI - FiTech is the front runner so far...down the road, the big idea is to snap a bolt-on supercharger in there after the initial kinks have been worked out. Then we will dyno and show up here with a story to tell.
I have a 2003 chevy with 5.3 in it I get twice the gas mileage he does in his Ford f150 and his wife's mustang with is a 5.0 he gets around 12 to 20 miles to a gal I get about 28 to 30 miles a gallon but I also use lucius gas fuel treatment and I cut my converts off plus I keep a clean air filter in it don't buy k&n air filter cause it will blow you motor in long periods of time I average around 440miles to 460 miles per tank with ain't bad for a v.8
I have a 2018 Silverado 5.3 liter what is horsepower ?
This maybe a crank or wheel HP rating, just arguing over where the numbers come from.

If you would read the stock specs the 2005 Chevy Silverado V6 is 249 HP. Cold Air intake adds about 20HP ish. Also put a throttle body spacer in and it adds about 15. Flowmaster dual exhaust system with super 44 series mufflers adds about 5-7 horsepower, but it mainly just makes the vehicle sound like a truck rather then like a mini van. The performance chip adds 10.
2005 chevy 4.3 is 195hp.... its a joke you think it has 249. Sorry ass engine for a truck.
And a stupid air filter does not add 20hp.... where are you getting these metrics? Lol
It depends wat motor u have the 5.3l lm7 has 285hp with 315ft lbs torque the 5.3l L31 has 315hp with 335lb pounds torque
My 05 z71 has 330hp. I'm 2nd owner and it hauls ass with an L33. I put drilled slotted rotors and ceramic pads, and just replaced the transfer case. 205k miles and when the time comes I'll have the motor rebuilt with some performance parts. Love my Z71
I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado z71 5.3 4x4 dual exhaust top Street performance intake Trans Am LS1 injectors aftermarket fuel pressure regulator HP tune on the computer stage 3 custom transmission 3.73 Yukon gear in the rear end runing 265 7017 load class e tires I have no idea the horsepower never dynoed it but it will do 0 to 60 in 4 seconds flat it tops out at 130mph and gets 20mpg on the hwy i payed 1600$ for the truck and have about 8000 in the truck i love it and will never get ride of it
I have 2006 Silverado Z71 with 5.3 Vortex/aluminum block/cast steel bore sleeves. 320hp. 345 torque stock. 16mpg street/24 highway. Of course it has 133,000 miles and still running strong. Never in shop except to change brake master booster. Use 5w-30 Castrol full synthetic oil. Best truck ever owned except for my 1994 Silverado ext cab with 5.7 turbo charged diesel.325,000 miles and still running strong after I sold in 2006. Only replaced fuel injector pump after 250,000 miles. 62yo man.
Well I asked a question how much horsepower does a 2000 GMC 1500 with a 5.3 have everybody got the answer wrong and right recently at 5200 RPMs is 285 a 2004 it's 295 everybody was saying 355 210 185 everybody had a different answer depending on the year most people are right but it all had to do with RPMs when the horsepower was there all the big horsepower for like 2013 at 5200 RPMs at 3:55 when looking this up online you need to ask is what every year you want what engine horsepower and then stat and it will give you the answer so you don't have to depend on everybody's opinion I've been a tech for 30 years and I didn't know I never thought or told everybody I knew everything I'm just surprised the Toyota Venza runs 268 horsepower with a V6 LOL that is a 2013 but it's just funny to me and somebody said the Dodge the Ford name Toyota has more horsepower fuel a real man you want to try real horsepower drive one of them my opinion is there's nothing more beautiful than a fully loaded GMC 1500 new I'm in love with it always have been you can't get a better ride

GuruN113N - Completely agree. My daily driver is a 2017 GMC Sierra...base model 5.3 (with plenty of hot-rod potential), single cab...however, it's got a 5/7 drop and is sitting on DUB 22s...it basically drives and handles like a Camaro. I'm not a tech, I'm a home hobby guy...and I absolutely find it hilarious that HP always draws a thousand different answers due to the "test" format. Generally, I fall back to the factory spec rating listed by the manufacturer.
My 2000 ex-cab z71 had 325hp 345 torque and I added a hypertex power programmer got another 125hp and 75 more lbs torque and no cut off at 97mph
