04 silverado backfire and missing

Sometimes when I get in my truck it starts fine and then as soon as I step on the gas it misses and backfires.  I am pretty sure I have an exhaust leak on the passenger side that I need to get fixed.  Sometimes the check engine light comes on when it does this, but i always goes off.  I have taken it to autozone when it was on and it pulled a random misfire code.  That really doesn't tell me much.  Does anyone have any ideas to what could be causing the problem so I don't end up throwing parts at it?

Delete chaseumall answered about a second ago timing Chane or were does it backfire out of the exhaust or carburetor could be vales need adjusting put a vacuum gauge on the manifold somewhere that should tell you
