Rough idling, how do I fix my particular issue?
Asked by kennyschevy Apr 06, 2014 at 05:36 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2005 LS Silverado 5.3L V8 with 200k miles on it. Just recently say in the last 1 thousand miles its been idling rough once put in gear, occasionally when not in gear. The CEL has been on during this timeframe but my local mechanic said it was a generic code. Just today the CEL went from being just on to flashing at me and it was idling rough/sounding like it was bogging down/missing while driving down the road at about 25-30mph and slower either idling or slow acceleration. If you were accelerating out of town such as 25mph zone to 65 around 1500-2000rpm it would smooth out and run fine. The results/severity varied depending on how much gas/rpm you gave it . Did not hear the same issue at highway speeds but road noise could be hiding it. I have done regular maintenance to my truck such as spark plugs every 75K, so on and so on but the plug wires are original. Any idea what could be the issue?

Blinking check engine light? Don't drive with it blinking. Have your codes read. May cause severe damage to engine if driving it with a blinking cel. What are the cel codes?

P0131-HO2S Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 1 P0171-Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1 P0300-Engine Misfire Detected C0055-Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction C0035-Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction Those are the codes that I got off the truck this evening.
Sorry been out of town. Have you tried cleaning your maf sensor? How close are you till your next plug change? Also these codes tend to make me think that your 02 sensor on drivers side closet to manifold might be bad.

I am not sure which 02 sensor was bad but my truck has 200,000+ on it and the 02 sensors are original, so I just replaced them all and my check engine light is off and it is idling perfect no more issues. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you I just replaced the sensors last night. Thank you for your input it was very helpful now I have my truck running like normal.

where do I find the MAF on a 2007 Silverado?
The MAF filter should be located between air filter box and hose to engine air intake. You should see it between a couple of hose clamps just outside your air filter box. Be careful on removal of electronic connectors not to force and break. Best advice is to do a Youtube search on how to clean your MAF. It's not difficult at all and only takes minutes. I've done it several times.
I have a 98 chevy Silverado changed spark plugs and wires on it a friend had scanner and scanned it and it still misfires I'm no expert but could my manifold be dirty and that's why it misfires? I need help
I have a 03. It's a throttle body sensor. Issue that's right at the breather and the intake. I had the exact same thing happen to me. But of course I don't trust many people being a woman. I done alot until I found out what it was. Hope you have alot of luck. It's Not Hard. I done it myself.
I had a similar struggle with my 09, it turns out my 1st & 7th misfire. I've changed my plugs, did all 8 and then periodically just do 1 & 7 and have replaced the coils on just 1&7. it has helped. A question I have - has anyone run into problems with their oil pressure switch/sensor? I have a 2009 Silverado, 5.3L with about 153miles on it. Oil pressure gauge is flat lined at 0, but the truck has ran fine until recently. It sputters a little when idling as well as an occasion shutter when driving. Nothing noticeable over 50mph speed. took it to the shop to have the codes read and all they have said was switch, nothing about misfire and nothing new. I have a feeling the screen is just clogged vs needing to replace the whole switch. May as well do both while in there anyways. ?
There is a technical service bulletin by GM that says between years of 2007 to 2011, I believe, you have get an updated valve cover one the driver side. The PCV system has been updated in the new cover and will help with your cylinder 1 and 7 issues.

Had similar issue with my 08 sierra. Oil pressure switch went bad. I changed it and pressure is good again.. now I'm get blinking engine light and runs rough. Changed coils, plugs, and wires. Still occasionally runs like a misfire. No noise coming from valve train. Any suggestions? Maybe o2 sensor or maf sensor?
