I need to know if clogged lines, clogged filter, bad pump

Asked by Bwb3636 Nov 04, 2015 at 06:36 PM about the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Work Truck Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Shut down on interstate.  Will start with ether but
shut off when ether burns out. Fuses and relays are
all good. You can hear pump running when half
crank. But no pressure at check point on fuel rail
where it goes into motor

A fuel filter change would be a good start. It sounds like your fuel pump is probably working. Check the filter to see if it is full of dirt or rust.

2006 was the year chevy did away with the inline fuel filter. It's built in somewhere by the pump I believe

Starting on ether then dying is a good indication of a bad fuel pump. So at the Schrader valve you have no pressure? It should be 56 to 62 lbs. Like F.o.R. says, change the fuel filter first before testing.

Fuel filter is a inline filter located underneath the drivers door, on the frame.
