Do I need to have a certain year to replace my 2006 5.3 v8 chevy Silverado motor

Just get the one that goes in there if your going to buy one.
This is kind of hard to answer, I just don't want you to run into complications in changing it over, like dealing with the computer and wiring harness. Your goal is to get the same set up as what is in the vehicle now. Yes there are years that would interchange, even if you have to swap say like intake manifolds and components to achieve what you have going on now so it is not a head-ache to do. I'd have to say like 2004 to 2008 you should be good. I'd have to do research to know exactly what years without a problem. The closest you can stick to your year engine the better.
