trailer lights not working on 2004 ford exhibition

Asked by Charles Dec 27, 2015 at 09:03 AM about the 2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

All fuses are good in box at kick plate in passenger side of truck.
I have checked all and have no problems with any of them. I have checked all online fuses suggested to check but still no power to running lights. I had power to them then something quit when i stupidly tried hooking new trailer hookup together with lights on. they  flashed then went out. Is there a fusible link or a relay and where? ground is great wiring looks great and fuses all look good. Need relay location.there is no fuse box under hood unless i am missing it. Please respond using passenger or drivers side as opposed to left or right as it seems some people can not differentiate the two.

I have ben looking for a solution, do your tail lights, break lights and turn signals work on the vehicle?

In that fuse box that you were looking at in your vehicle, fuse F1.42 is for the trailer tow connector, upper left corner, the Trailer Tow Relay is C2110 midway down in middle. I am not sure if it is replaceable.

Often times the trailer connectors get dirt and corrosion in them and you have to clean up the terminals before the trailer lights will work. Try connecting and disconnecting the trailer cord several times and it may clean enough corrosion off to get the lights working. What kind of connector do you have? 7 pin or 4 pin?

Fuse 42 is good. My cover for fuse box only has numbers 1 threw 120 or so and the relays are marked relay 1 or 2 etc.. the relay half way down is numbered Relay 5. My trailer connection is new(how I blew whatever) and factory mounted 4 prong hook up is clean mounted correctly and in good shape. All lights on exhibitoion work all but running lights work on trailer. I traced wire back to middle of truck near axle and nothing looks snagged or loose wires still in protective covering. I assume something like a relay fuse or fusible link is culprit as the lights flickered then went out when i connected wires together for running lights. Thanks for helping yall. Anxiously awaiting further correspondence.

trailer less than 6 months old. Plug was dragged is why i was replacing it when for some reason i thought it a good idea to have pigtail plugged in when wiring and lights on like a dummy. They flashed when i made connection and nothing more since. brake and turn light all work correctly

If you have 2 rows of 3 relays in the middle of the fuse box, starting from the top left to right that #5 relay is a trailer tow relay. Do those come out?

No trailer running lights on 2003 Expedition, replaced all fuses except the one I looked hard to find. #10-20 amp fuse. It was hidden in the Back-up Lamps, Back-up lamp relay is the Trailer Tow park lamp relay. We are burning now!!!
