Asked by Tasha Apr 14, 2017 at 12:52 PM about the 2005 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A couple of days ago my light came on on my 2005
ford expedition eddie bauer. It told me to change
my throttle position sensor. Since i changed that
my truck will only shift into gears p,r,n but when I
try to put it in drive it still moving like its stuck in
neutral. While in drive it moves a little but only if a
press all the way down on the gas. Help. I have
replaced the throttle position sensor and cleaned
the throttle body. What could be wrong

If this did not do this before you changed out the Throttle Positioning Sensor, then I suspect a broken wire or two at the plugin for the TPS. You can check by pulling on each wire from the plugin to see if the insulation stretches, if it does there is a broke wire and the plugin would need to be replaced.

So if the cord is broken then as you pull on it the gears will shift is that a sign the cord is broken?

I'm sorry, I was thinking something else. But yes sorta, something may be wrong with the shift cable, but I suspect something with the Shift Interlock System on the shifter. Never the less down by the transmission linkage would need to be looked at and if nothing out of the ordinary is out of place, not moving when shifting, then up by the shifter would need to be looked at where the Shift Interlock is located. All this probably doesn't make sense to you but it just needs to be looked at to find the problem.
