My gear shifter on my 2005 Ford Expedition won't engage. How do I repair? Won't go into any gear.

My gear shifter broke. The guy from AAA went underneath the truck and moved it into gear just to get me home. Is it a cable that is broken?

the cable could break yes. look on the back of the steering column where it connects make sure it didnt come loose. Something inside the column could have broke or come loose also.

Does a 2005 Ford Expedition 4X4 use the same shifter cable as a regular 2005 Ford Expedition??
