I just had my 2006 pt cruiser water pumo and timing belt donw, I got three estimates one from firestone they wanted 1470.00$ one by a local garage that has like 10 other garages, they wanted 1540.00$ then a local garage no gas station, no convenience store attached, just a garage with mechanics. they charged me 770.00$ for water pump and timing belt. so please do check around. one of the buggest differences is both chains wanted to charge me almost 300 bucks for the water pump, online you can buy it for 35 bucks the garage charged me 42.50$ for that part.
