PT Cruiser engine won't hold a timing belt

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2006 pt cruiser turbo engine. It was running perfectly and I had the timing belt
replaced. The first time it shredded immediately. The second time it drove 75 miles
before coming off. The shop is telling me the engine is bad. Is there anything that will
cause the belt to track improperly?

If it's the 2.4 liter engine it's a non interference engine. Did you have the tensioner pulley replaced? Water pump? If you just replaced only the belt, you may have another bad component.
Well, either your engine is bad or you need a new mechanic! So, you're saying that you had your timing belt professionally installed and the mechanic at your garage can't keep the thing running on the car and it has fallen off or destroyed twice? The mechanic does not pay attention to details and sounds incompetent to me.
I hope he refunded your money. I would definitely recommend towing the car to another garage. Call one of your friends and get a recommendation.
you either have some worn components like, tensioner , water pump, idler, or the tech who replaced the belt damaged the belt when installing, you need to have all 3 sprocket cogs inspected for any burr's that may be damaging the belt too
