over heating problem

I have changed the thermasta did a tune up spark plugs new radiator cap
but my cruiser still has a over heating problem it gos up to half way mark and
stays there  but i have to put water or antifreeze when i come back from a
long
drive also while driving it smells like antifreeze in my pt cruise why what can i
do im at the end of my rope with this car.
