Asked by Tammy Sep 04, 2019 at 04:17 PM about the 1994 GMC Sierra 1500 K1500 SL 4WD Extended Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Sometimes my truck will start right up.  Other times I turn the key, gauges
move, but not even a click from engine.  No crank, no nothing.  Took starter
out and napa said it was fine.  Replaced clutch safety switch and ignition
switch.  No start.   Help...

my guess is the ignition rack, if the rack gets a break it will stretch out till it is no longer engaging, thats what im currently fixing on my 94 silverado. No crank but the starter works fine, we manually put power to the starter wire from a hot wire and moved it to the shop. the key goes into cranking position but does not engage starter because the ignition rack does not pull its usual travel distance. thats just what im thinking at the moment but i could be very wrong.
