Electrical

Asked by TTNRAB Jul 26, 2016 at 10:27 PM about the 2005 Audi A6 3.2 quattro Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i am experiencing a problem where the electrical system is dead.. If I put the key in
the ignition it cannot be removed. If I disconnect the battery ground cable
and reconnect it, the system reboots and everthing works normally. All is well as
long as I operate the car daily. If I don't I experience the same condition again.
The battery is new. Any ideas as to what is going on?

i looked threw a few forums boards and i came up with what is the likely cause of the issue. The park selector switch in your shiftier is not working. The car has a safety feature that if your car is not detected in park it won't release the key. if you have vats i would recommend doing a scan and this will confirm the issue. A couple of other issues mentioned are battery being low on voltage and key cylinder needing to be replaced due to it failing from old age hehe. I know you said you replaced the battery recently but this would be the best place to start trouble shooting first. So this leads to question 1. Where did you pickup the battery? if you got a battery any where else then audi or vw this could be the issue. question 2. Whats the voltage readout of the battery? an audi with less then 10.5 volts for this particular modal starts to have electrical issues such as your key problem. question 3. if you put the car to power on and flip up and down your gear selector will the key release after a few times of trying this?
