Asked by pkb Nov 07, 2015 at 01:59 PM about the 2001 Audi A4 2.8 quattro AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My mechanic said that to pass emissions, the repair of this car (replace
catalytic converter) I adore will cost 10,000 dollars. Any suggestions other
than trying to sell?
Thanks

A catalytic converter does not cost $10,000. There is a lot more to this or he is flat out lying. A new converter for your car is about $230. http://www.discountcatalyticconverters.com/shop/? N=0&Ns=&VN=2001+Audi+A4%20Quattro

Take it to another shop and get an evaluation done. If both say the cat is bad then purchase the part yourself and have an Audi mechanic install it for you. The cat install usually runs about 2 hours of labor plus parts cost. You should be able to take care of it for less than $600.
