2001 Audi A4 2.8

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently bought a 2001 Audi A4 2.8 a few months ago. I
was driving it home from work as I was going down a hill
the steering wheel locked up, brakes were hard to push
down and the dash lights lit up. I took it to a mechanic
and they told me I needed a new ECU. Would this fix the
problem, or are they just trying to take my money?

1 Answer

the steering locked or did it become stiff? was the engine still running? the column cannot lock with the key in/on. poor brake performance and heavy steering will happen when the motor stalls, dash lights would act like test mode in start mode. a bad ECU may shut engine down leading to poor brakes and steering but cannot lock steering ever. get a good code reader. check it.
