Can wheel damage cause shifting issues

Asked by GuruXDHM4 Oct 01, 2018 at 09:55 PM about the 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.7L GLS AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 01 Santa Fe GLS that has recently suffered a blown strut on the front
drivers side.. My kid didn't realize he shouldn't drive it like that and did for
almost a month.  At the same time the car has stopped shifting beyond 2nd
gear.  Reverse, 1st 2nd all fine.  It seems I might have heard there are sensors
in the wheels that tell the tranny when to shift.  Could the problem be related?

1 Answer

Unless the stress somehow damaged the transmission somehow the problems are unrelated. The transmission is probably bad. The sensors you are referring to are for the ABS system.
