I have little to no air flow out of my vents.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have little to no air flow out of my vents. I
have already checked and fixed what i
thought was the main problems. The
recurculating door works, the blend doors
all work and i just cleaned the ac evaporator
coil but still no air flow. The last thing i can
try is getting a new blower motor resistor.

The resistor is the most common part that goes out. You can check the blower motor by running a separate power line to it, it should run full blast when you do this.
The fan does work but very little airflow even on high. I even used a garden hose to try and flush any crud out a second time and still NO SUCCESS.
So you are saying the blower motor works from low to high? If so it would not be the resistor. There is some obstruction some where, not sure on those if there is a cabin filter or not, something to check into, a parts store could tell you unless some one here knows for sure.
No there isn't they didn't make cabin filter in jeeps from 1997 to 2009 or something like that so thats why i was spraying the AC evaporator coil because there was a lot of dirt and debris. One of the dumb moves or smart i guess on Chrysler so it breaks down quick and are forced to pay 2000 to get the AC and heater coils replaced.
The blend air doors are broken. You will still be hearing the door actuator moving but the doors are not working. There are 2 fix's on YouTube. 1 is to cut into the box going thru the glove box and the other is taking the entire dash, council, stearing wheel and the entire HVAC box out and splitting it open to replace the doors. If you do that I recommend replacing the heating core and resister and maybe even the heater motor. You can replace the heater motor from the bottom I believe but once it is all out of there you don't want to have to go back and do it again for something else. The AC evaporator is not as important as it doesn't fail like the heater core can from all the water and corrosion moving thru it. If people would change their anti freeze or use chemicals to prevent corrosion then that would not happen.
I replaced the blower motor resistor/ controller several years ago but have had very poor air flow since. Now after reading several forums, I checked the blend door problems but they appeared fine. I could find no obstructions. The fan engaged into high. After reading on jeep garage.org... of some having the blower fan running the the wrong direction I checked and sure enough my fan was turning the wrong way. I give fault to the resistor/controller being wired wrong as when it is installed the wire clips can only go together one way. I had to cut the lead wires (green and brown I think) to the blower motor and reverse the wires. The blower now turns the correct way and air flow is restored. bygeorge

Had the same problem with my 2001 Grand Cherokee. Blower was on, heat was hot, but weak / no air coming from vents. Pulled dash, blend doors were fine. Replaced 4 actuators (at least 2 were dead), blend doors worked perfectly. Found broken vacuum hose under battery platform going into reservoir, replaced that (my cruise control started working). Cleared check valve in vacuum line near firewall, got a bit of air blowing but still not enough. Finally after reading your idea here, pulled the blower motor to check direction of flow. Never considered the fan might be blowing the wrong way! But that was it - it was not blowing up into the VAC system. Reversed the green and brown wires and it started blowing strong through the vents, the defroster and floor vents. AWESOME! Thank you
This is interesting Premio_2162, is this the way it was wired from the factory or for some reason were the wires cut and wired back incorrectly?
Premio_2162 answered 7 years ago
Not sure. Somebody was working on HVAC before, worked on blend doors as they looked aftermarket. Couldn't tell about the blower but when we reversed the wires it blew with volume through the ducts, whereas before it was sucking air down and just a trickle came from through the ducts. Unexpected cause of the problem, pretty easy solution.
Check if Air flows from the defrost vents below the windshield. If it does, and no matter what U do, then the vacuum hose on engine side is not fitted on the Vacuum pipe there. Just fit it back to fix the problem !
I read somewhere that blower motors were wired incorrectly at factory that supplied them? IE you could plug them straight into jeep plug which only connects one way- but they still run backwards! Prise out purple plug on blower side plug wire then pull out wires from plug and reverse them- SOLVED
Hi Guys ....Premio.....i have the same problem with my 2001 jeep grand cherokee. It sounds the same...getting some air but not nearly enough.im no mechanic so i have a question for you. do i have to cut the wires? If i can switch the wires without cutting can you explain how? Please explain the process for me. Thank you very much. This problems been driving me nuts.
Just pull out the blower motor before cutting any wires, and see if it is turning in the right direction.
Dont need to do that ,just grab wires at harness plug- pull out and reverse wires with long nose pliers!

2004 Grand Cherokee, Same thing, I had very little flow even when fan was on high. Took off the blower motor and looked up intp the intake. The flapper that controls outside air or recirculate was broken off of the hings and completely covered the intake. Jammed the flapper open. Works now but I get 1/2 outside air and 1/2 recirculated air. better than B4
Had same problem, the flapper broke off,I duct tapped the flapper door tightly to the intake and the air flow now blast out on high.
Drivers side blowers work but passenger side barely.. what's wrong?
2004 grand Cherokee limited v8 4.7 here. blower motor (sensor) replaced last month (Not OEM part) due to A whisper of hot and cold air only. The cold and hot air is coming out now but not nearly enough like before to cool entire interior. Have to keep fan on high just to feel slightly comfortable in driver seat. Anyone have any ideas what I should tell the car repair place? They want to remove dashboard to check for blockages. No cabin filter in this make. Any advice appreciated.
I took the blower out and saw the flapper thing was down I taped it and now it makes a winding noise?
By George I ain't vehicle Davy by any means lol but was wondering if we can get in touch n u can show me what n how u did to fix ur jeep cuz I have that exact same problem n I'm from south south Texas so this heat ain't no joke ha appreciate the help i
Went back to mechanic yesterday after "blower motor" replaced per my post above. Told them what MARTIN wrote above and sure enough that was the root cause. It was installed backward by manufacturer. I have never had AC or heat worked on & am original owner. Fan is now Blowing full force again! Still not as "cold" as I would like so heading back next week to dig deeper. They'd NEVER seen or heard of this problem before so mention it if you have no fan air or light fan air coming out of vents.
Hope to find a genius out there..... 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Recirc door is OK, Blend Doors are OK. Fan running up to speed and in the right direction. Good air flow from center vents but barely any air flow from passenger vents and far left vent.. Evaporator is clean. Any Ideas ?
By the way, No dual control. Just plain Vanilla
Mine was not blowing out the passenger side vents. I dropped my glove box to the left is an actuator two Phillips head screws holding it in. Take it off and twist the knob counter clock wise to open your vents

2001 Grand Cherokee Limited. No heat on the drivers side. Shows codes 54 & 56. I haven't cut into the area where the doors are yet but the actuator behind the glove box doesn't seem to be working right. I can manually operate the door and get the heat to work on the drivers side. The plastic connection on the actuator is cracked, I superglued and zip tied that. It only seems to actuate when the key is turned on or off. Also, I had poor flow coming out of the vents, so I switched the wires on the blower. It blows great now but all of a sudden it won't turn off at all, even with the key out. I will continue to troubleshoot but if anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful. It's my moms car, its cold out and we need to save money! Thanks guys
If it blows with the key out I think that is a resistor problem. I had the same thing happen. I suggest get that from the dealership with a warranty.
Yep its wired backward. Just discovered the same problem on my 01'.

Have 99 Jeep Cherokee my air works in the morning but when it gets hot outside it quits working and only blows out hot air. Checked all fuses compressor freon etc . Any suggestions
where is the youtube video mentioning cutting the heater box?
I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with heat problems... Have my access door cut in and fixed one blend door and somebody already had replaced the inner door with a brand new door and while he was in there, didn't replace the 2 of them, ha... Still no heat!!! In reading about fand direction, I put a smoky rag in the access hole and fan deffinately, ha, is blowing in the right direction... Now, I can put my hand on the heater core and it is cold... Am I putting my hand on the heater core or the Cooling evaporator??? Bob
Bob again: Back to my previous ait-flow comment;; There is NO air flowing ""through"" the heater core... Fins blocked??? I blew compressed air in them...………...
Definitely wired backwards. Pulled wiring harnesses popped out purple clip at top of plug, pulled wires out swapped em. Now air flow blows great
Thank-you:):):) BUT, the problem is/was that the blower motor/fan has to pass air through the AC condenser/core first before it gets to the Heater Core... The AC core was plugged!!! Sprayed a cleaner into the core and with air pressure, blew out the dirt:):):)
I hope someone can help me. I have a Grand Cherokee Jeep quadra-drive it's an 04. I've never had any real problems with it that was no quick-fix. But yesterday turn the air conditioner on on the passenger side the two vents blow hot air on the driver side and the two vents right in the middle cold air. I do not know what to do my husband is unsure what to do is there anyone who has had this issue Orkin advised me and what I should look at. I would appreciate any advice thank you so much.
Shewholvs.. it's your blend doors. It could be a bad actuator or broken doors. Ive dealt with both and just converted to single climate control instead of dual
I have a 98 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 with manual controls. Air/heat only blows out when the vehicle is in motion. I have replace the blower motor as I was told it was bad when I got it...any ideas as to what I can do?
no heat blowing full blast but no heat replaced heater core no idea what can be the problem,
Cheap fix for too little air flow in all modes. The fresh air door has broken loose and all the air flow is going out the fresh air intake. Pull the blower motor, and you should find the door laying loose. Secure the door temporarily with tape and put a couple of self tapping screws in at the bottom of the door. You won't have the re circulation mode, but much better than pulling the whole dash and AC unit out to make the repair.
My ac stopped blowing the heat won’t even blow but I hear the condenser comes on just nothing will blow does anybody know wat may be wrong
Hey! I have an 01 grand cherokee. Air flow is BRUTAL. Blower motor and resistor were changed. Swapped the wires to make sure the fan was blowing the right way (it wasnt). Changed the broken blend door. Still incredibly weak. Sounds like it's blowing, but it does not. The actuator in the glove box was tested and checked out fine. What am I missing?
Also the recirc door opens and closes as it's supposed to. There is no cabin filter. I'm lost now.
I had very little air blowing out any of the vents even though AC was set to high. Cold air was coming out the defrost vent which is right under the windshield. The fix was finding a quarter inch tube coming out of the passenger side firewall that gets routed past the engine to the intake manifold. Where it connected to the intake manifold this little hose had come loose. I reattached it and put a zip tie on it to make sure it didn't come loose again. Are is now blowing hard out of all my AC vents.
The tube is routed from the passenger side firewall up along the edge of the engine compartment and then across the engine and then to the driver side of the silver intake manifold this tube was disconnected. My understanding is when the AC the text no vacuum and all the air gets shifted out the defrost vent. Reattaching the hose resume the vacuum and thus normal operation of the proper air flow through the vents.
2000 xj 4.0 Replaced evaporator core, heater core, and blower motor. Everhthing works fine except I have very little air and heat blowing from the vents on any selection (high/low, defrost, etc.). Would the new blower motor have been wired improperly? I did read above so im going to check some of those things out today. Just wondering if anyone experienced this after repairing the same parts. The air worked fine before we tore it down.
I just replaced my A/C compressor and resistor becuase my ac first was bowing only warm air but than stopped blowing all together after spending $1500 I drive home with the ar barely blowing. Shop said blend doors were completely gone so we are moving toward the next process of replacing them which if done right means pulling the dash so another $1k to replace a piece of plastic. Not a great move from Jeep but hopefully this will take care of the issue. Living in Florida I need A/C

Its either the resistor or sadly it will require further assistance
