Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Can I swap my straight six 4.0 engine from a
2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 2002 V8
engine? If so would it need any special
modifications?

Engine, trans, ecm, wiring harness's. programming, upgrade the brakes, exhaust, etc. Too much work for something that old. If this a project got for it. Daily driver, no.

Would the motor mounts line up? The 4.0 I6 is taking the place of the V8. I wrecked the front end of the "01 jeep with the v6 but have another 02 jeep with v8 that is smoking and misfiring that I want to swap the motors with.

The v6 4.0 engine seems to be ok, still turns over and sounds solid
