They stated at the dealer it would not swap I would assume cause of the transfer cases... The 1999 has the 4x4 part time, neutral, and 4 Lo system... The 2001 has the selectable 2hi, 4x4 part time, 4x4 full time, Neutral, and 4 Lo... But it was stated that they are the same trnasmission model wise... So is it just the transfer case I guess?
The Transfer case is the same and the transmission is the same. the difference is the electronics in the transmission. In 2000, the electronics changed, the governor pressure sensor/solenoid are wired differently. What will happen if you install the pre 2000 in a post 2000 car it the PCM will struggle to operate the transmission. You will have R, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd operate normally, however, OD/4th may not operate at all, or will only operate after the transmission has warmed up. A solution would be use the transmission but swap the electronic components, if they have failed in the old box; use the housing and replace the OD clutch solenoid and Gov Pres/Sens.
I put a transmission out of a 1999 jeep grand cherokee in a 2001 model what electronics need changed for my 4th gear and od to work
Will a 1999 tranny fit a 2000
Johnny, The wiring diagrams show that the connection to the wiring harness is the same. The voltage is the same (5 volts) and all the ports line up the same. The difference is the design of the internal connectors. Mine is doing exactly what you said it would (r,1,2,&3 work fine, no OD). My question is what makes them different? If all of the inputs and outputs are the same, it should send the signal to shift, right? If I must change them out, I know I will have to swap the internal wiring harness to the governor as well. Will this fit in the 98 transmission?
