Cooling Fan Mistery

I could be wrong by my 1999 Jeep has a fan that seems to run only on one speed. If it runs, there is no need to find that controller. I think the controller is located under the right headlight housing where you cut a hole to access it. If it's not overheating, there might not be a problem. Tell us what you find.

Well..I think that there is a real problem with this fan system here..I have experienced a slow traffic jam on a hot day that made motor temperature much higher that below mid dial gauge reading.It got hot and upon popping the hood the fan was still at a slow motion speed.I may have to start dismantling the front end and rad section to find a solution to this obvious failure from the cooling sections.

Very good help right there...Only option left will be to replace fan's motor as this RPM is definitively sub standard...Will have to price and order one.I was also very intrigued by the loosed ball bearing s showing within the inner circular track of the fan's hub.Still remaining to be answered.Why only one speed and why running always at very slow speed?Does not make much sense to run a cooling system this way..

Good observation, the ball bearings falling out of the shaft bearing. The bearing seized and is pulling the fan motor down to slow speed. Fan motor should be burning out soon. Replacing the fan should fix the problem of the engine overheating. The new fan will run much faster even though they are very quiet. Good Luck.

A very good answer to my mystery fan problem..To understand the answer on this one.. I got that the black plastic fan fan assembly has gotten (some) loose bearings within the shroud structure and is impeding rated RPM top performance..Fan motor could also be faulty...and pulling a fraction of it's workload.

2004 jeep grand Cherokee fan runs with engine off and no key in ignition can anyone know what would cause this

GuruBK9ZZ. The fan that runs constantly would probably be a stuck cooling fan relay. Open the hood and go to the power distribution box next to the battery. Open the lid and check for the fan relay location and disconnect it. If the fan stops, that's the problem. If that's not it, pull the other ones one at a time and see if that does it. If you need to dive it, let the fan run to keep the engine from overheating, but pull the relay to keep the battery from getting run down while engine is off. Some Jeeps have the fan relay under the headlight, accessible only by cutting a hole in the plastic under the headlight once it's removed. (Check YouTube.) You can still reach the wire and connector coming from the fan motor...disconnect it there.
