2002 jeep "key" light coming on when trying to start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 2002 jeep that out of the blue won't start right up.  There is a "key"
light on the dash.  The jeep will eventually turn over but it runs very very rough
and there is a very strong gas fume at that point.  Any suggestions on what it
could be besides take it to the dealer?

Telling us engine is gone. We bought it 2 months ago as a totally rebuilt engine. Purchased off craigslist. Sick sick sick over this.
