My 2002 Grand Marquis' brake light on the dash comes on when I step on the brake and sometimes even when I don't. Could it be low on brake fluid?

Why does the brake light on the dash light up? Does that indicate a brake problem or a light problem?

Yes. Most likely that it is low on brake fluid. Whenever our Patrol Car's Brake light comes on, we can count on the brake pads being worn to the replacement level. Be sure to look the brake system over for a leak (don't forget about inside the brake booster too). Usually though, it's just Ford's way of saying that you'll need new brake pads soon.

It was low. The fluid was half of what it should be. I'll watch now to see if it gets low again, indicating a leak, I guess! Thanks.

Be sure to have your brakes checked. They're worn!
