Grand Marquis won't start.

Asked by Jake Oct 27, 2016 at 09:56 PM about the 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis GS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My '04 grand marquis won't start. Hadn't had any
problems with it prior to this. Put gas in the car, got 1/2
mile from the gas station and it started to lose power on
acceleration. Got another half mile before it died out and
wouldn't start back up. Got online and did some reading.
Some suggestions were that it was the air flow control
valve. Replaced that. Still nothing. Next suggestion was it
was the fuel pump. I could hear the pump when I turned
the key, but went ahead and replaced it anyway. Also
changed the fuel filter.

I should not that even after changing the fuel pump and
filter, I'm still not getting any gas shooting out the
Schrader valve when trying to start the car.

When I spray starter fluid into the carburetor the car will
start and run for a few seconds.

I reset the switch in the trunk as well.

Check fuel pump fuse, then check the fuel pump relay, may have been one of them and not pump to start with.

Had the same problem. Unhook your battery for at least 30 minutes. Hook up battery again, and try to start. The computer had received a code that prevented the car from starting. We initially unhooked the battery for 15 minutes, which was not long enough to drain all the power from the computer.
