i recently had the timing belt and waterpump changed the car ran fine for about a week then it started acting up, rough idle, low power incorrect rpm on the guage. but it would do this intermittantly.at first it ran well for long periods and bad for short periods.now it is just the opposite, with almost no good periods. i have changed the spark plugs and wires and the engine runs a tad bit better but not much. what could cause this problem

Check the wire harness connections around the timing belt cover. A loose connection could cause this. Also check the negative battery cable to the frame and motor these cars do all sorts of weird stuff when they don't have a good negative connection. Look at your plug wires. At night with engine idling, hood open and no lights shining on engine look at your plug wires and coil. Do you see any blue sparks coming from them? If so you have spark jump. Replace the items that the spark is jumping from.
also sounds like the timing might have jumped a tooth,, verify that the timing is still lined up correctly

i have already done all the things you have suggested and nothing and we are also ignoring the tachometer running slower than the actual rpm, i feel this has something to do with the problem as it seems to only act that way when the car is acting bad.
