Jim no dipstick on these, GM uses the same trans design in the 3.4 and smaller engine transmissions. It's considered a non serviceable transmission. the only time transmission fluid and power steering fluid will ever be low is of there is a leak. If brake fluid is low and there is no leak then it's time to change your pads. http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t2254_ds476437 you may have to delete the spaces in the link but the link has pictures in it to explain how to check the fluid. They designed the transmission like this because 99.9% of transmission dirt comes from people opening the dipstick tube power steering and brake fluid contaminated are gotten the same way.

2000 Pontiac grand am 2.4 transmission fluid change jack vehicle so that the car is level both sides that is so the transmission fluid will be equally be level in transmission. Then unscrew the to red cap where you would fill the transmission from just keep the cap in by a couple of turns then get a large drain pain and start to remove all the transmission pan bolts as the fluid leaks into the drain pan remove the filter held in by force easily wiggle the filter out once out there is a seal where the filter came out take a seal puller and remove then install the new seal with filter kit with seal installer tool. then lube up the seal with transmission fluid and install the filter take a rubber mallet and tap into place until seated it will stop moving upwards then it is sealed then wipe off any old gasket and use acetone on a rag to remove ant transmission fluid to install the new gasket and pan. first take the pan and remove all dirt and build up from the years of not being changed then you can prime and pain the transmission pan once that is complete take form a gasket and apply the new gasket apply gasket dealer to both sides of gasket lightly don't need to much on gasket just enough to make the gasket seal once done there bolt up all the transmission bolts and torque bolts to 12 lbs. make sure to look up bolt pattern to torque the pan otherwise you will get leaks when that is complete get a long funnel remove red filler screw cap on top of trans and insert funnel once drained i had a 2.4 with a 42 trans it took 8 quarts of transmission fluid look up what fluid is right for your car i hope this helps remember the car must be level to properly fill transmission there is a plug right above the trans pan about 2 inches above unscrew fill up to when the fluid comes out then reinsert plug warm up car putting it in reverse and drive a few times and get the fluid moving after that is done and car is warmed up remove drain plug you will see that it needs more fluid keep filling it till it starts to dribble out of fill hole reinsert plug and tighten to proper specs and that is all check for leaks and you are all set do this every 30,000 miles to keep tranny in good shape make sure you get the right transmission fluid or you will l blow up your trans hope this helped jr your local mechanic
