Pontiac Grand Am SE transmission

Asked by Gavin May 17, 2022 at 08:05 PM about the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car has 168k miles and the transmission is
banging gears as well as slipping once the car gets
up to temp. I feel like its the solonoid in the
transaxle but wanted to get some other opinions as
well as see what else i should get replaced while
the trans is down.

A slipping automatic transmission indicates worn clutches. At 168K, I would say it's time for a full transmission rebuild. Reconsider doing it based on the cost and how old your vehicle is and will last.
