2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE1 Trac Off light staying on

Asked by Princess Nov 22, 2020 at 04:28 PM about the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE1

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello. I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE1 with the 2.2
Ecotec 4 cylinder engine, car has 209,843 miles on it.
Yesterday while the car was running, the Trac Off light
came on. Shut car off, restarted and the light stayed on for
about 15-20 seconds and went off. Ran car for about 20
more minutes (it's my first car and it has no tags or
insurance yet so can't be driven very far or on public roads
but want to keep brand new battery charged up. Plus I
recently figured out that the valves aren't bent after a timing
chain failure and replacement by the previous owner)
Anyways, I started the car today and since it has been
running very well, I decided to take it around the
neighborhood and back very quickly to see how it runs. Ran
great, had great power except the Trac Off light came on
while on the way back to the house and this time, wont shut
off even after restarting car. None of the other lights are on,
just the Trac Off light. Please help!

Could be a wheel sensor.within the ABS system. Have you noticed what codes were being generated?

That's what I think but won't be able to read codes until next weekend. Will post an update when I do though. Even though all of my wheel bearings/hubs have been replaced due to an ABS, Brake and Trac Off light combination earlier in it's life, it could still be possible.
