Ringing at 2000 RPMs

Asked by phillip Jan 04, 2018 at 12:27 PM about the 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So, I was sitting in the drive way, and started to
leave when I heard a loud ringing coming from the
engine bay at 2k RPMs. Anybody know what this
could be or might sound like?

Well, the reason I say ringing is because it wasn't like a rattle or a hum or anything, it was literally a high pitch ring lol

Sorry for rattling your chain. I couldn't resist. It's always tough to diagnose and repair something that happens only once. I agree that it does sound kind of pulley/accessory/serpentine belt-ish but that's really just a shot in the dark. I'd get a good trouble light and do a detailed inspection under the hood, especially at the front of the engine, and also take a look underneath. If what you heard was something actually breaking, you might spot it. If everything is in order about all you can do is drive it and wait for it to happen again.

Ah no you're good man, it was funny lol but it didn't sound like a bad belt or pulley, but like you said it's hard to diagnose something with out being able to look at it. But it's seems to be running fine, still have yet to hear it again, so I think I'mma just leave it alone for now.
