1996 SE hesitates before moving forward when in Drive

When I come to a stop, it hesitates before moving forward after I have started accellerating.  I have noticed when I do come to a stop I can feel a slight clunk.  Any suggestions before I call for service?  Thank you.

have your transmission fluid and filter changed,your local mechanic can do this job.
