I would join the subaruforester.c0m forum and ask there. You would think they would be at least somewhat close just because of the year alone. I'm also recalling something about some transmissions had a different length coupler or something on the end of the transfer case (or MPT for auto) but I don't recall the exact details. They are actually the same trans. Subaru used the same 4EAT trans for a long time as their choice automatic.
