2006 Cobalt wont start

Asked by Ethan Oct 08, 2018 at 10:45 PM about the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt LS Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 cobalt with a 2.2l 5speed having
issues figuring out why it wont start, crank relay
clicks in the intorior fuze box and thats it, and ive
switched the one out under the hood, also the
dome lights do not come on nor the stereo and
when starting the guage cluster only has the air
bag light on for the indicator lights, ive checked all
the fuzes and there all good, could it be the
computer? Or somthing else?

At the risk of oversimplifying the problem, check the various grounds on your car and make sure they are all good. Also load test the battery. A weak battery makes the electrical system do all sorts of weird things.

Cobalts are prone to parasitic drains and honestly like a BMW there’s no fix for it. I’ve started putting mine on a tender every few days. Do a global reset (cap discharge) and then with a fully charged battery reconnect it. In theory it should clear out codes and data that are intermittent and leave any hard codes behind/also allow you to start the vehicle. If the issue persists check the fuse in the trunk that goes to the battery and see if it’s blown.
