Burning oil
Asked by Dvsh_381 Jun 24, 2016 at 01:02 PM about the 2006 Chevrolet Equinox LT FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2006 equinox and it burns oil really bad. It also has
a little rattling noise in the motor but only when I step on
the gas pedal. Does anyone have and idea why it would
have that rattle only when I press on the gas peddle? And
also with it burning up the oil there is no leaks anywhere
and I have to put oil in it everywhere and when I pull the dip
stick the motor oil is straight black there is no milky look to
the oil at all which would be a blown head gasket. Does
anyone out there have an idea of what this problem may
be?

How many miles on this Equinox? It may be the engine is just worn out.
Might want to take it to a mechanic and get it checked over. You are right in that 103,000 miles is not all that many. How often do you change oil and how long have you had this vehicle?
I get it changed every 7000 miles and I have had it for a year in a half. And I have took it to many mechanics and none of them seem to know what the problem is either
After doing some research I have found the the Equinox is notorious for using oil. I was unable to find the exact cause, but I believe it is piston rings. A mechanic could run a compression test and a cylinder leak down test, but it may likely show that the rings are not sealing properly (just my opinion). If this is the case a rebuilt or new engine is in your future. I think I would consider getting rid of the vehicle if it were mine. Good luck with it.
See that's what I said that the piston rings burn up and I would get rid of it if I didn't owe 9000 dollars on it
Thanks for your advice and taking the time to look it up for me I appreciate your help
My equinox makes the same rattling sound occasionally when i press the gas too.almost like a thumping sound, only for a couple seconds though
